Don’t forget – the Heights is the place to be this weekend.

Burnaby’s favourite family festival is back on Saturday, June 3. Hats Off Day takes to Hastings Street from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The street shuts down between Boundary Road and Gamma Avenue, packing the street with visitors turning out to enjoy a main-street-style parade, followed by a big street party.

The police motorcycle drill team kicks off the parade at 9:30 a.m. Check out all the details at www.hatsoffday.com – or, better yet, just get the kids and head on up to the Heights to enjoy it all for yourself.

KIDS CAN CODE

Got a young techie in the house? The Tommy Douglas branch of Burnaby Public Library is offering a Kids Can Code session on Saturday, June 3, running from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The coding lesson for kids introduces coding concepts using the programming language Scratch. It’s all part of Canada Learning Code Week, and the lessons will take place in the computer lab at the library.

You have to sign up ahead. Call the library at 604-522-3971 or register online at www.bpl.bc.ca/events.

TAKE DAD TO THE MARKET

Looking for a fun outing for Father’s Day weekend? Take the whole family to the Burnaby Artisan Farmers’ Market and you can enjoy a morning out – and make a card for Dad while you’re there.

The market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and you can browse through vendors offering a wide range of produce, prepared foods and various artisan offerings. There’s also a kids’ area, and the craft of the weekend on Saturday, June 17 will be making Father’s Day cards.

Live entertainment is also on site, and you can even stay and grab some on-site food from the food trucks to enjoy some lunch while you’re there.

The market runs in the north parking lot at Burnaby City Hall, 4949 Canada Way. See www.artisanmarkets.ca for more details.
