At the event's Flavour Lab, you'll be able to concoct technically advanced goodies while learning about the science behind them.

Calling all North Shore food fans.

This Saturday and Sunday (June 11 and 12), Capilano Mall is hosting over half a dozen food trucks alongside an artisanal market and a food-meets-technology activity.

Food truck offerings at the event include specialty bowls from Aloha Poke, colourful Indian food from Holi Masala, Eastern European-inspired dishes from Old Country Pierogi, lobster rolls from Salty’s Lobster Shack, comfort food from Steamworks Food Truck and BeaverTails pastries (Sunday only).

The Good Eats market features craft preparations and serveware made by artisanal vendors. You’ll be able to find croissants from Bear + Berry, plant-based goodies from Big Mountain Foods, sweet and savoury snacks from Bon Mano Bon, decadent desserts Crème Brûlée To Go, vegan candy from Health Hippo, handcrafted clay cups from Leeba Ceramics and upcycled baked goods from Susgrainable.

At the Flavour Lab, festival-goers will be able to explore and co-create delicious flavours by sipping “cloud beverages,” tasting edible balloons and trying ice cream made from liquid nitrogen.

Lab technicians will describe the process and science behind the activity while participants enjoy the end result.

At a tasting lounge, you’ll be able to sample a number of edible and drinkable offerings from Capilano Mall merchants.

To go with the eats, live DJ PB & Jam will serve up musical beats at the event.

"Foodie Fest is a family-friendly event for local foodies and the North Shore community to enjoy," Capilano Mall spokesperson Clay Hamilton said in an email. "From must-try food truck fare, to a food-meets-technology activity, to an artisanal food market, there is something on the menu for everyone to indulge in."

Locals can expect more portable vendors to drive into town this summer, as the City of North Vancouver has approved a food truck pilot program to allow them at a number of designated locations.
