Burnaby MLAs say families will be saving money soon on child care as local sites become $10 a Day ChildCareBC sites where fees are capped at a maximum of $200 a month per child.

“I know there couldn’t be a better time for Burnaby families to hear that their child care centre is becoming a $10 a Day site,” said Katrina Chen, MLA for Burnaby-Lougheed and the minister who handles child care, in a statement. “We’ve heard that having access to $10 a Day child care is life-changing and I can’t wait for families in our community to feel the positive impact.”

The following child-care sites in Burnaby are becoming $10 a Day ChildCareBC sites, which means a total of 99 child-care spaces will have fees dramatically reduced for parents:

  • Angel's Playhouse Multi-age Childcare Centre (Kentwood)
  • Brentwood Nursery School
  • Deaf Children's Society of B.C.
  • Morley Child Care Centre

“I’m grateful to announce that families in Burnaby will have access to $10 a day spaces at Morley Childcare,” said Anne Kang, MLA for Burnaby-Deer Lake, in a statement. “As we work to build a stronger B.C., we’re continuing to invest in affordable child care so that families across the province are supported for whatever comes their way.”

This increases the number of $10 a Day ChildCareBC spaces available for families across the province, from 2,500 when the program began in 2018, to more than 6,500. Through a partnership with the Government of Canada, the number of $10 a Day ChildCareBC spaces in the province will more than double again to 12,500 by December 2022, said a news release.
