The next dates are Saturday, July 14, Friday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Sept. 8. They all start at 2 p.m. and cover Powell Street in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. The area used to be a bustling community of Japanese-Canadians until the internment during the Second World War. The tours last about 90 minutes and cost $10. For reservations, call 604-777-7000 ext. 109 or email [email protected].
VACATION OPPORTUNITY
Here's a lovely opportunity to nominate someone for a free dream vacation. A new travel TV show, Operation: Vacation, is looking for deserving people from the Lower Mainland to receive a surprise dream getaway.
They are looking for someone who works hard and gives to others but never seems to have time for a well-deserved break.
The show's staff stress that it's a surprise, so if you have someone in mind, don't mention anything.
To nominate someone, email [email protected] and include a photo of yourself and the person you are nominating. It can be a family member or friend.
FREE PONY RIDES
If you or your children are fascinated by horses, mark you calendar for the Burnaby Equestrian Centre's July 21 open house.
Volunteers from the Burnaby Horsemen's Association are hosting, and there will be pony rides, barn tours, free manure for gardeners, and information on the facility and its programs.
The centre is at 9080 Avalon Ave., on the east side of Burnaby Lake.
The event is free, and organizers recommend you bring well-heeled boots for the pony rides.
