Whether you're creative or sporty - or both - there's an event for you taking place in Burnaby this weekend. In this week's popular feature, our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend, we have:

Get exposed to design excellence in Japanese daily life with the opening reception and tenugui sale at the Japanese Canadian National Museum (a component of Nikkei Place complex at #1206688 Southoaks Cres.) in Burnaby. Tenugui, which are towels made of bleached cotton, have been used for wiping and cleaning, wrapping and wearing - and even as advertising tools. More than 200 towels will be on display at a colourful exhibition. A tenugui sale takes place on Friday, Jan. 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., a talk by Kazuhiro Kato of the Kamawanu Company (a Tokyo company presenting the exhibition) takes place on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m., and the opening reception and tenugui sale takes place on Saturday, Jan. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. For more, visit www.jcnm.ca or call 604-777-7000.

Get entertained by Don Quixote's tale of courage and madness, which has captivated readers for more than four centuries. The Arts Club on Tour presents the epic comedy of love and delusion, at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on Friday, Jan. 13. The show will take place in the James Cowan Theatre at 6450 Deer Lake Ave. For more information and ticket information, visit www. shadboltcentre.com.

Get educated about the fast and exciting sport of speed skating. Burnaby Haida Speed Skating Club is hosting its annual interclub short track speed skating meet at the Bill Copeland Arena at 3676 Kensington Ave. (at Sprott Street). Racing runs from 8 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. Free admission.

Get rid of the January blues by checking out the comedy at Lafflines Comedy Club. Burnaby's Ardell Brophy-Fitzpatrick (The Lady with the Oxygen Tank) will get the crowd revved up for headliner Matt Davis on Friday, Jan. 13. Doors open at 8: 30 p.m., and the show gets underway at 9: 30 p.m. Tickets are $18. Call 604-525-2262 to reserve. Lafflines is located at 530 Columbia St. in the Columbia Theatre.
