The theme for this year’s Hats Off Day in the Heights, set for Saturday, June 3, is the Great Canadian Outdoors.

The Canadian outdoors will be thrust into the spotlight during the 33rd annual Hats Off Day in the Heights.

This year’s theme, the Great Canadian Outdoors, is a nod to the 150th anniversary of Confederation, which is being celebrated through various events across the country, the Heights Merchants Association announced Monday.

Hats Off Day, happening this year on Saturday, June 3, is a day-long street festival where businesses in the Heights can show their appreciation for the community and its support. The day kicks off with a parade along Hastings Street from Gamma Avenue to Boundary Road. Following the parade, Hastings Street remains closed to traffic while musicians and street performers entertain visitors. There are also kids’ activities, attractions, food and sweet treats for everyone to enjoy, noted a press release.

“Every year, we introduce a new theme to make the festival fresh and exciting. This year, with Canada’s 150th birthday, we thought the Great Canadian Outdoors theme would inspire everyone,” said Isabel Kolic, executive director of the Heights Merchants Association, in the release.

Applications are now being accepted for groups interested in participating in the Hats Off Day parade or the non-profit community zone. Deadlines are April 1 and April 16, respectively. To apply and for more information on the event go to www.hatsoffday.com.
