The Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness received some funding from the Vancouver Foundation to hire a parttime community development coordinator, and Wanda Mulholland, longtime local homeless advocate, will take on the role.
"I look forward to seeing the ways in which this position will increase the capacity of the task force to advocate for adequate housing and services for Burnaby citizens who are living in homelessness and extreme poverty," she said.
Mulholland's job is to raise public awareness about homelessness and solutions in Burnaby.
Mulholland has been volunteering with the task force for seven years and received a Local Hero Award from the City of Burnaby in 2007. For more on the task force, go to www.burnabyhome lesstaskforce.org.
