Stephen D'Souza, executive director of Burnaby Community Services, says his organization is accepting donations all year round.

Burnaby NOW reporter Jennifer Moreau caught up with Stephen D'Souza from Burnaby Community Services to see how the Christmas Bureau is doing, heading into that final stretch leading up to Dec. 25. The bureau relies on donations of toys and money from the community and provides toys for children from low-income families and hampers for isolated seniors at Christmas.

How is the bureau doing in terms of donations?
This year Burnaby has been incredibly generous with gift donations. We have had incredible toys, mothers' items and gift certificates donated.

What is your goal for money and toys?
We have raised $132,138, our goal is $153,000.

Can you meet demand this year?
All the families coming through the toy room this year will be receiving incredible gifts.

What do you need more of?
Right now our focus is on meeting our cash donation goal. This money is not only used at Christmas, but also supports year-round programs to help families with low incomes and seniors in isolation.

When is the last chance to donate?
Burnaby Community Serviced accepts donations throughout the year. We are giving every day.

Why should Burnaby residents donate to the bureau?
The Burnaby Christmas Bureau is a local program helping local families and seniors. You know that every donation is helping a neighbour, a family in your child's school, and a senior living alone down the street. The Christmas Bureau, like all the programs offered by Burnaby Community Services, helps to empower people to change their lives and their community.
