The annual Kensington Community Fair went off without a hitch this past weekend.

The fair took place on Saturday, July 23 in Kensington Park, and organizer Ken Ryan said between 2,500 to 3,000 people came out.

“It was good - best crowd ever,” said Ryan.

Ryan and the Burnaby North Community Association put on the fair every year. This year featured midway rides for the kids and entertainment.  White Spot was on scene providing food, and the community association provided hotdogs, drinks and snacks.

The fair started as a customer-appreciation event for the Kensington mall 23 years ago, Ryan explained. The fair grew too big for the mall and moved across the street to the park several years ago, he added.

Volunteer Burnaby helped coordinate this year’s fair, and Ryan, who is now 75 years old, said he’s hoping more volunteers will take over to help with next year’s event. To get involved, contact Volunteer Burnaby at 604-294-5533.
