More than 250 staff and student volunteers were on hand to help first responders when a mock disaster struck BCIT’s Burnaby campus Wednesday morning.
The real-time emergency response exercise faked an extreme-weather disaster and was designed to hone the technical institute’s disaster-response system.
BCIT puts on a live-action disaster-preparedness exercise every two years.
This year’s event ranged over four of the school’s buildings dotted with simulated victims of flooding, downed power lines, fallen trees and other debris.
The biennial exercise is one of Burnaby's largest disaster preparedness events.
