Looking for a fun, low-cost way to connect with your community this summer and meet some new people?
The Burnaby Neighbourhood House is hosting another summer barbecue series, where neighbours get to know each other over food.
“People meet, they mingle, they talk. We always have people playing games,” said Lindsay Grant, an events assistant at the organization’s north location. “It’s just a really great way of different members in the community coming together. You make friends you wouldn’t normally meet through school or work. It’s just a fun community event.”
The first barbecue is on Wednesday, July 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 4460 Beresford St.
Two dollars will get you a hotdog (or veggie dog), chips and a drink. There will be activities for kids, too. (See sidebar for full summer barbecue schedule.)
The North Burnaby Neighbourhood House is also hosting Girolino on July 16, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the corner of Albert Street and Willingdon Avenue. The Girolino is a kids’ event leading up to the Giro di Burnaby, the annual local bike race.
At Girolino, there will be a barbecue, bubbles, a bike obstacle course, and bike-decorating station for the kids. (Children must be wearing helmets to participate in cycling activities.)
