Te annual Realtors Care blanket drive kicks is underway, and warm blankets and winter clothing are requested for distribution to partner charities in the area.

Two New Westminster-based non-profits will benefit from the generosity of the Realtor’s Care blanket drive.

After a one-year hiatus, the annual blanket drive has returned, with Realtors collecting financial donations or warm clothes and blankets for charities supporting people in need. Locally, people can drop off donations at Park Georgia Realty (718 Second St.) or RE/MAX Advantage Realty (#102-321 Sixth St.).

The blanket drive campaign appreciates donations of warm clothing, coats, blankets, and new socks and underwear. It runs from Nov. 15 to 22.

“The effects of the pandemic continue to impact those in our communities who are most vulnerable, and the blanket drive gives us all opportunities to do our part to help fulfil a great need,” Larry Anderson, president of the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board, said in a press release. “Our members and volunteers take personal pride in being part of a collective effort, knowing their donations make a real and human impact in the community.”

Now in its 27th year, the blanket drive campaign is a partnership among the Lower Mainland’s three real estate boards: the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver; the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board; and the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board.

Donations will be delivered to a variety of non-profits in Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, including the Elizabeth Fry Society and the Union Gospel Mission in New Westminster.

“Although some COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, the pandemic continues to adversely affect our partner charities,” said Taylor Biggar, chair of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver. “With the success of our online fundraiser last year, we’re holding both a blanket drive and financial drive in 2021 to help meet these dual needs of the charities.
