Help fill those shelves with toys next week. The Hilton, Scotiabank and Burnaby firefighters are teaming up to host a pancake breakfast for the Burnaby Christmas Bureau on Thursday, Dec. 5.

There’s a new Christmas tradition gaining momentum in the city – the annual pancake breakfast for the Burnaby Christmas Bureau.
This year marks the second for the annual event, which was started by Scotiabank, the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society and the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown.
“We’d like to challenge the people and the businesses in our community to discover the real meaning of Christmas, to help those less fortunate by making a difference in the lives of people in need this holiday season,” said Jeff Clark, vice-president of the Burnaby Firefighters.
Last year’s event pulled in more than $3,000 and a truckload of toys.
This year’s pancake breakfast is at on Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Hilton, at 6083 McKay Ave.
Bring an unwrapped toy (worth at least $20) or cash in exchange for breakfast. There are two options available from 6 to 9:30 a.m.: breakfast in the ballroom or a continental McDonald’s breakfast to go in the valet parking area.
Besides the food, there is also live entertainment, including blues musician Jim Byrnes, country singer AJ Woodworth, performing artist Gina Williams, the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Band, and Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Breakfast Television also plans to be at the event.
Burnaby Community Services facilitates the annual Christmas Bureau, which provides presents for children from local low-income families and hampers for seniors.
“It’s a great, great community event. It’s easily becoming the new tradition for Burnaby to celebrate the holidays,” said Stephen D’Souza, executive director of Burnaby Community Connections.
