A reported 10,000 guests showed up for the Lower Mainland's largest annual Hare Krishna festival on Aug. 21.

The event, held at Burnaby's Hare Krishna temple, celebrates the god's birthday with classical Indian dance, live theatre, an amusement park for kids, music and a free vegetarian feast. Highlights include sending a statue of Krishna on a boat ride and on a swing, and at midnight, he appears dressed in nothing but flowers.

The Hare Krishna movement, also known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, began in New York in the '60s and regards Krishna as the supreme God.

The temple is at 5462 Marine Dr.
