In true West Coast fashion, Santa Claus donned rubber boots and carried an umbrella as he went from shop to shop during Light Up the Heights on Saturday.
The annual event featured special deals for shoppers, prizes, giveaways and, of course, a visit from the jolly fellow himself.
The rain didn’t deter many people from stopping by the North Burnaby neighbourhood for the festive event. By the time the rain stopped, shortly before 4 p.m., there were 200 people gathered at the fire hall on Hastings Street for the tree lighting ceremony, according to Sydney Van Alstyne, marketing and events coordinator for the Heights Merchants Association.
Van Alstyne said that despite the rain it was a good turnout for the event, adding most shops were quite busy.
