Retired teacher focuses on pipelines and schools

I had an interesting chat recently with Mary Hatch, a retired teacher and member of BROKE, Burnaby Residents Opposing Kinder Morgan Expansion.

I had an interesting chat recently with Mary Hatch, a retired teacher and member of BROKE, Burnaby Residents Opposing Kinder Morgan Expansion.

Mary got involved with BROKE because her home was sprayed with oil in the 2007 Kinder Morgan pipeline rupture.

After visiting Stoney Creek Community School and noticing the pipeline runs beneath the community

garden by the school, Mary became interested in pipelines and school safety and put together a Power Point presentation on the issue.

Mary has been trying to share it with stakeholders, and has shown the BCTF, which put it up on their YouTube channel as well.

She's also tried to connect with local parent advisory councils, but was told they don't want to get too political.

To see Mary's presentation, go to bit. ly/12jC6E2 or look up the BurnabyPipelineWatch channel on YouTube.
