A group of New Westminster elementary students showed compassion knows no borders.
Nine Grade 4 students at F.W. Howay Elementary School raised more than $100 for the Burnaby-based Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C.
The money was raised during the second annual Spring Fair hosted by the school’s parent advisory council (PAC). The students were tasked with creating and selling handmade goods to the public to raise money for the PAC or charity of their choice.
Together, Grade 4 students Corinna, Anna, Audrey, Alix, Isla, Amily, Jasleen, Maxine and Laura raised $133.50 for the association.
The association’s current location at Burnaby Lake has fallen into disrepair after a particularly rough winter, and its board is contemplating whether to renovate or rebuild the entire facility. While no decision has been made about the site, the association put out a call last month for donations to repair a leaking hot water boiler and improve food storage capacity and wash stations for cleaning contaminated fur and feathers.
(The association hit its fundraiser target of $50,000 on May 2.)
