Talented performers tops on Edmonds stage

Kudos are in order for the winners of the Edmonds City Fair talent contest. First place went to Nhemy-Jjr Cepeda, a singer who performed On My Own, from Les Misérables.

Singer Jada Mckenzie-Moore won second place, and third place went to Jasmine Stacey, who sang and played acoustic guitar. The top three performers received Visa gift cards as prizes.

Best Group Performance went to dancers D-Tension and New Jill Swing, while B.A.T., a dance duo, was ranked most energetic.

Spoken word performer Emma McDonald was dubbed the most original act, while Alex Montinola, a slam poet, was considered most inspirational. World Dance Kids received recognition for best costumes, and the dance troupe’s Sabrina Sanchez was singled out as the youngest performer.

Fun in the sun

Looking for something fun to do this summer? The Willingdon Community Fair is on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Willingdon Community Centre.

If the weather is good, expect several hundred people to show up. The fair a good chance to get out and meet your neighbours. There will be games, a barbecue, a free Zumba class and crafts. The JDG Project, a local group, will perform music for the crowd. There will also be an Imagination Playground, which is a collection of giant blocks kids can play with. There will also be a cake walk, where people have a chance to win a cake.
