Three Burnaby schools get grants for Odyssey of the Mind World Finals

Three Burnaby teams participated in the Odyssey of the Mind Finals this year, and each is receiving a $1,000 community grant to help with travel costs. City council approved the community grants at the May 28 council meeting.

Three Burnaby teams participated in the Odyssey of the Mind Finals this year, and each is receiving a $1,000 community grant to help with travel costs.

Teams from Ecole Marlborough, South Slope Elementary School and Lochdale Community School attended the finals in Iowa in May.

Other Burnaby students also received grants from the city to help with travel costs to competitions.

A grant of $1,000 went to Cliff Avenue United's U-18 Gold Girls soccer team, for travel expenses to the provincial championship in Kelowna in July.

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver also received a grant, this one for $3,000, for its in-school and teen mentoring programs.

The Burnaby Seniors Outreach Society received a grant of $2,500 for its services and programs.

The Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness was approved for an in-kind grant of $1,450 for brochure printing costs.

The Burnaby RCMP received a grant of $2,300 for a granite memorial for Const. Terry Tomfohr.
