The British Columbia Automobile Association has announced the winners of its third annual dry grad video challenge.
The winning school is Hugh McRoberts Secondary in Richmond, which also placed second in last year's challenge.
The grand prize of $4,000 will be awarded to the school to help fund its dry grad celebration, according to a press release from the association.
The two runners-up are L.A. Matheson Secondary in Surrey and Rutland Senior Secondary in Kelowna. Each school will receive $2,000 and $1,000 respectively for its dry grad events.
More than 5,000 online votes were submitted during the challenge, the release stated, and the top five videos received more than 14,000 views collectively on YouTube by the end of the challenge.
The association launched the challenge across B.C. and the Yukon. High school graduates produced short videos to encourage fellow grads not to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Video submissions were viewed by a panel of judges including students and professionals involved in the fields of nursing, road and public safety, broadcasting or video production, according to the release.
The judging panel included Mary Kay Thurston, the program head for the journalism, broadcast and media communications department at the B.C. Institute of Technology in Burnaby; Francesca Fionda, a broadcasting and online journalism student at BCIT; Marie Scott, a nursing student at Langara College; Denai Johnson, a radio host with The Beat 94.5 FM; and Mark Donnelly, director of communication and community for BCAA and chief operating officer of the BCAA Road Safety Foundation.
Last year's winners were George Elliot Secondary in Lake Country, B.C., Hugh McRoberts Secondary and New Westminster Secondary.
