It’s not too late to get your photo taken with the Big Guy. Metropolis at Metrotown wraps up its photos with Santa program on Christmas Eve, so take the kiddos to the mall anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. or 2 and 5 p.m. There is a suggested $2 minimum donation per photo (all proceeds will be donated to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau). Since it’ll be the last time to see Saint Nick, give yourself plenty of time and plan ahead.
Christmastime means plenty of christmas shows and movies. Gather the family and watch flicks such as The Polar Express, It’s a Wonderful Life, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Christmas Carol and many more. (Netflix is a great source for holiday films.) Partake in whatever Christmas traditions you enjoy and spend time with your loved ones. Before you know it, 2017 will be here and it’ll be back to the grind.
Still have a few more gifts on your list? Support local businesses for those last-minute holiday needs. Whether it’s the Heights (check out the new Candy Apple Toy Company), Brentwood, Kingsway, Lougheed, Market Crossing or Edmonds, there’s plenty of boutiques to frequent. Why head out of town to shop when you can shop local?
Take a trip to the top of Burnaby Mountain. Wear your finest sledding attire and slide down the slope next to Horizons Restaurant. This one’s a good one for the entire family. Bring some hot chocolate, some snacks and you have yourself an afternoon.
Hop on the Skytrain at any Burnaby station and take the new Evergreen Line to Coquitlam to check out Lights at Lafarge (the new line’s last stop). The winter light display at Lafarge Lake features more than 100,000 twinkling lights situated around a 1.2-kilometre loop around the lake. Best part? It’s free. It’s on seven days a week until Jan. 22.
