Swangard Stadium will come alive for Canada Day with a free concert. Headliner Steven Page, former frontman of the Barenaked Ladies, will entertain the crowd along with other performers. There will also be vendors and activities for the whole family. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the concert starts at 6:30 p.m. A fireworks show will cap off the night, so make sure to stick around. The stadium is at Kingsway and Boundary Road.

The Edmonds Plaza & Park will also host its own free Canada Day festivities. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., check out the face painting, music, arts and crafts, bingo and more. Edmonds Park is located behind the Edmonds Community Centre, 7433 Edmonds St. Oh, and don’t forget to wear red!

Try yoga at Brentwood Town Centre on Sunday, July 2. The community yoga class, running every Sunday until Dec. 31, is led by Yoga Spirit & Wellness in the mall’s upper level across from SoftMoc Shoes. No experience is needed. Participation is by donation. The class is one hour and starts at 10 a.m. Attend 10 classes and receive a free gift.

The forecast is calling for mainly sunny skies this weekend, so head outdoors to one of the city’s beautiful parks. Grab a book, picnic or a friend and take advantage of the balmy weather. One of our favourites is renting a boat on Deer Lake. Deer Lake Boat Rentals offers one- or two-person kayaks, two-person rowboats, pedal boats and canoes. Rates are very affordable and range between $14.29/hour to $29.46/hour. For more information, visit deerlakeboatrentals.com.
