It’s the last weekend of shopping before the big day, so don’t wait any longer. Metropolis at Metrotown (just one option) is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Dec. 23 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 24. If you’re at the mall (4700 Kingsway), get your photo with Santa. Pictures are by donation (minimum $3), with all proceeds going to the Burnaby Christmas Bureau.

Grab some hot chocolate – or coffee, if you prefer – and drive around Burnaby with the family. There are plenty of decorative light displays around the city, including in the Heights, Lougheed Town Centre, Metrotown, Deer Lake and more. Turn on the radio, listen to Christmas carols and make an evening of it.

Head to the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Saturday, Dec. 23 for an Ugly Christmas Sweater Toonie Skate. From 12:30 to 3 p.m., there will be crafts, face painting, reindeer games and holiday cheer, including a special visit from Santa. Admission is $2 (free for kids three and under), and covers the cost of skates and a helmet. The facility is at 3676 Kensington Ave.

Stop by the Burnaby Village Museum on Saturday, Dec. 23 for Heritage Christmas. The festive fun includes theatre performances, street characters, musicians, family-friendly activities, hot chocolate, baking, visits with Father Christmas and more. Make sure to bundle up nice and warm. Drop in between 1 and 9 p.m. The village is at 6501 Deer Lake Ave. Admission is free, but carousel rides do cost a small fee.

Gather with your loved ones this weekend and watch your favourite Christmas movies. Whether it’s It’s A Wonderful Life, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or any of the hundreds of flicks out there, it’s bound to get you into the Christmas spirit. And don’t forget to leave out a few cookies and a glass of milk for St. Nick! Happy holidays, everyone!
