The last full weekend in January is offering up plenty of winter celebrations, as well as other events. From the annual SFU Robbie Burns dinner to the first of the city’s Chinese New Year events, there is a lot to do.

The last full weekend in January is offering up plenty of winter celebrations, as well as other events. From the annual SFU Robbie Burns dinner to the first of the city’s Chinese New Year events, there is a lot to do.

1 Get celebrating the Year of the Horse at Brentwood Town Centre. The mall is hosting an arts and crafts centre near the children’s play area, including a balloon artisan, from 1 to 4 p.m. Lucky lion dance performances will take place in the centre court from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., and there will be a blessing of the merchants from 3 to 4 p.m. For more information, go to www.brentwoodtowncentre.com.

2 Get stocking up on lacrosse gear at the Burnaby Lakers clearance sale on Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. 3 Get informed about how to get involved in the National Energy Board’s hearing process on the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion project. MP Kennedy Stewart, who is opposed to the project, is holding a meeting on how to apply for intervenor status this Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Confederation Community Centre at 4585 Albert St. 

4 Get poetic at the SFU Robbie Burns dinner and silent auction on Saturday evening. The event is being held to support Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Bands. There will be performances by the SFU Pipe Band and the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band. Tickets are $70. The event takes place at the Executive Plaza Hotel at 405 North Rd. in Coquitlam, and the doors open at 6 p.m. Contact Leslie Techy for tickets by calling 604-942-3292 or by email.

5 Get musical at a performance by the Roma Gry troupe at the Edmonds Community Centre at 7433 Edmonds St. The performance takes place on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. For tickets, call 778-683-6463 or 778-251-3159, or buy them at the door.
