Drop in to the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Saturday, Dec. 17 for the Ugly Christmas Sweater Skate. Wear your most hideous attire and join in on the fun, happening between 12:30 and 3 p.m. There will be crafts, face painting and lots of holiday cheer. Santa and his elves will be there, so make sure to bring a camera for photos. The arena is at 3676 Kensington Ave. Regular admission and rental rates apply.
Head to the C.G. Brown Memorial Pool on Sunday, Dec. 18 for a swim with Santa between noon and 1:30 p.m. Admission is $1. All ages are welcome. The pool is at 3702 Kensington Ave.
Visit the Julian Duerksen Glass Studio for an open house and sale on Dec. 17 between noon and 5 p.m. Glass artist Julian Duerksen will wow the crowd with live demos at 1 and 3 p.m. The studio, at #103-2799 Gilmore Ave., will also have a variety of pieces for sale, including tumblers, goblets, beer mugs, colourful vases, bowls and candlesticks. Once the sun sets, hop in the car and take a drive through Burnaby to check out people’s Christmas lights. This is always a great activity to do if you’re looking to get into the spirit of the holidays. Pop in a favourite Christmas CD and you’re set. One house to check out is the DuPlessis home, at 8222 Burnlake Dr.
Drop in to the Bob Prittie (Metrotown) library branch for a morning of crafts on Dec. 17. Families are welcome to stop by between 10 a.m. and noon to make some holiday cards. This is an all ages event and no registration is required. Adults must accompany children younger than 10. Meanwhile, the McGill branch is having a Christmas story time extravaganza that day, between 11 a.m. and noon. There will be puppets, stories, songs and a craft. Space is limited, so arrive early.
