Dress up in your country best and head to Willingdon Heights United Church, 4304 Parker St., for the second annual spring dance. Hosted by the Capitol Hill Country Dance Society, the event promises to be a tapping good time for all. Live music will be provided by the Flying Allemande band. No experience or partner needed. Dances will be taught on the spot. Cost is $10 per person or $20 for a family. It’s happening on Saturday, May 20 from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

Head to the Burnaby City Hall parking lot on May 20 for the farmers’ market. There will be live music, a used book exchange, a children’s play tent, a games table and sitting area. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feel free to come hungry as there are food trucks on site. Shoppers are asked to bring their own shopping bags. City hall is at 4949 Canada Way.

Help celebrate the opening of a new exhibit – Kimono Culture – at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre on May 20. Staff are inviting attendees to wear a kimono or Japanese-inspired clothing. There will be a curator talk and gallery tour, a Satsuki-kai Japanese dance performance, Japanese treats and more. The event is on from 1 to 4 p.m. at 6688 Southoaks Cres. Admission is free.

Drop by the Burnaby Art Gallery on the weekend for Arts Alive. It’s a presentation of works by students from across the Burnaby school district. Place and Home was the theme this year for the students’ art projects. The gallery (6344 Deer Lake Ave.) is open from noon till 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  

And don’t forget monday is Victoria Day. Head to the Burnaby Village Museum, which will be celebrating the Queen from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are a host of activities, including free cupcakes and the Queen’s procession. For more information, visit burnabyvillagemuseum.ca.
