Celebrate Family Day at Bill Copeland Sports Centre (3676 Kensington Ave.) on Monday, Feb. 12. There will be a pancake breakfast ($4 per person) from 9 to 11:30 a.m., a toonie skate from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and entertainment, including face painting, crafts and DJ tunes. Laugh out loud during The Comic Strippers, a male stripper parody and improv comedy show. The show (for ages 19 and up) is at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, 6450 Deer Lake Ave., on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $43 if purchased online. Buy at tickets.shadboltcentre.com.

Learn about Moji Taiwo’s journey as an immigrant in Canada during a book release in Metrotown on Saturday. The author will be on hand at Burnaby Neighbourhood South House (#302-4460 Beresford St.), starting at 2 p.m., to share words from her book I Give Because I’m Blessed – I’m Blessed Because I Give. The event is part of Black History Month and is hosted by the National Congress of Black Women Foundation. Admission is free. RSVP at [email protected]. Deer Lake Gallery is hosting a demonstration of traditional Coast Salish drumming on Saturday. Brandon Gabriel – Kwelexwecten, a contemporary mixed-media artist who specializes in painting, drawing, illustration and graphic design to name a few, will be showing off his skills.
