What's happening for Canada Day weekend?

We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.

1 Head to Bonsor Recreation Complex on Saturday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Burnaby's multicultural festival. This annual event draws thousands of people, who descend on Bonsor to check out the cultural displays, food and entertainment. Admission is free, and there are fun activities for the kids, crafts, henna and African hairbraiding. Various community groups, like MOSAIC and the South Burnaby Neighbourhod House, will be there with informational displays. For more info, call 604-297-4597. Bonsor is at 6550 Bonsor Ave.

2 Check out the Canada Day celebrations on Sunday July 1 in Ron McLean Park. The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 2: 30 p.m., with multicultural entertainment, food and kids' activities. There will be bouncy castles, face painting, free cake, water games, bingo and more. The Eastburn Community Centre organizes the celebration, and admission is free. Ron McLean Park is at Rumble Street and Hedley Avenue, just a four-minute walk from the Edmonds SkyTrain station. There's also a free shuttle leaving from Edmonds Community Centre at 10: 30 and 11 a.m., with return trips at 2: 15 and 2: 45 p.m. For more info, call 604-297-4838.

3 The Burnaby Village Museum is also hosting a Canada Day celebration on Sunday, July 1. There will be free cake, heritage games and entertainers for the kids and an official parade complete with a bag piper and colour party. Burnaby RCMP officers will be roaming and posing for photos in their red serge. For more information, go to www.burnabyvillage museum.ca.

4 Swing by Dance Addicts studio in the Heights Neighbourhood on Saturday, June 30 for some Canada Day Sweet Swing. The social dancing event is to celebrate Canada Day a bit early. There will be a West Coast swing floor show and b-boy demonstration with a group called Now or Never.

The dance is from 8: 30 p.m. till 12: 30 a.m. Admission is $15 for members and $18 for guests. There's no lesson ahead of time, but the studio holds West Coast swing lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Dance Addicts is at 4622 Hastings St. For more, go to www.danceaddicts.ca.

5 Brentwood Park Alliance Church is holding its 13th annual Canada Day Carnival on Sunday, July 1 at 1410 Delta Ave. There will be live entertainment from Jerrica Santos and Now's the Time.
