What’s happening?
The City of New Westminster is holding its annual Canada Day festivities in Queen’s Park on Sunday, July 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Along with entertainment, crafts, games, and snacks, families can enjoy the regular park features like the spray park, petting farm and playgrounds. Stephen O’Shea will MC the event and attendees can join Elizabeth Irving in the singing of O Canada at noon.
Who is performing?
Canada Day features a variety of performers on the bandshell stage: 5 on a String (11:30 am); Roland & Emma Nipp (12:30 p.m.); Echo Nebraska (1:05 p.m.); Khac Chi Bamboo (2 p.m.); and Pernell Reichert (2:25 p.m.).
What else is happening on Canada Day?
The New West Multicultural Festival will showcase the community’s rich cultural diversity on Sunday, July 1 from 2 to 10 p.m. at Westminster Pier Park. Organized by the New Westminster Philippine Festival, the free festival features live bands, vocal performers, food, cultural dance presentations from different countries and Zumba. It culminates with a public dance – that goes until the fireworks display begins.
Did someone say fireworks?
The Hyack Festival Association is hosting the Canada Day fireworks at Westminster Quay. They’re set to take place about 10 p.m. Along with fireworks, you’ll be able to enjoy musical entertainment on a stage at the Quay and vendors in River Market from noon till 8 p.m.
What will I hear at the Quay?
You’ll hear lots of great music at the Quay on Canada Day. The folks from Quayside Voices, who have been performing around town for several years, tell us that New West is in for a treat for a treat with some of the musicians taking to the stage at River Market. The day’s lineup includes: Sara & Eric, two vocalists hailing from the Maritimes who will be singing folky originals and covers (1 p.m.); Fifth Street, a Victoria-based a cappella band (1:35 p.m.); Quayside Voices (2 p.m.); Rob Fillo, a singer-songwriter (3 p.m.); and Quayside Voices (4:15 p.m.).

The Hyack Festival Association is once again holding a Canada Day fireworks photo contest and encouraging people to submit photos for a chance to win prizes and to have their photos published on Hyack’s website and social media.
