The holiday season is in full swing in Burnaby, with everything from cultural offerings to breakfast with the big guy. Whether you want to hide out indoors where it's warm or get out in the fresh air, there's something for you in the city. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. Here's our Top 5 list for Dec. 6 to 8.

1. Get delighted by the Royal City Youth Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker at the Michael J. Fox Theatre on Friday at 7 p.m. The popular ballet is coming to the city for one night only, so make sure not to miss it. Call the box office at 604-521-5050 for ticket information or go to tickets.masseytheatre.com to purchase tickets online.

2. Get merrily munching with Santa Claus at the Nikkei Museum and Cultural Centre on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The pancake breakfast will include sausages, fruit and a drink. Don't forget cameras for a photo with the jolly old elf himself. Admission is $7 for adults, $6.50 for children ages three to 12 and $3 for toddlers.

3. Get Christmas shopping at the Mistletoe Market at Gordon Church at the corner of Edmonds Street and Humphries Avenue. The market takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch is $6 for adults and $3 for children six to 12 years old. There will be a silent auction, home baking, crafts and games.

4. Get celebrating at the annual Light up the Heights event this Saturday in North Burnaby. The focus this year is on shopping locally for the holidays. The Heights Merchants Association, which organizes the event, is inviting community members and friends to the sidewalk festival. Carollers, Santa and his elves will be walking along Hastings Street from noon to 5 p.m. At 4:45 p.m., everyone will gather at the Burnaby Fire Hall at Hastings Street and Carleton Avenue for the lighting ceremony.

5. Get cultured at the Artspace Children's Art Centre's art show and sale this Saturday and Sunday. The centre is also offering free demo workshops for the kids. The event runs on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There'll be holiday shopping at the artisan market featuring unique creations by Artspace faculty.
