As we turn our calendars to the fourth month of 2012 this weekend, we're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.
This week, we have some great options for the second full weekend of spring in the city. Here's our Top 5 for this weekend:
1 Get grooving on Saturday, March 31 to David Myles at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, 6450 Deer Lake Ave. Myles, an award-winning recording artist, showcases his love of experimentation as he combines pop hooks with great songwriting and a return to his first instrument, the trumpet. The show's at 8 p.m., with tickets and info at 604-205-3000 or online at www.shadboltcentre.com.
2 Get Scandinavian on both Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1 for the Nordic Spirit Festival at the Scandinavian Community Centre, 6540 Thomas St., running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The plethora of events available includes a talk by Scott Larsen, Scandinavians on the Titanic, on Sunday at 1 p.m.; smorgasbord sandwiches with Danish cook Kate Praegel on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.; Scandinavian card weaving with Linda Woodcock on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.; and the Scandinavian Minority Folk Musicians Concert on Saturday night at 7: 30 p.m. For more information, go to www.scandi naviancentre.org.

4 Get into the spirit of gardening by taking the Land Conservancy of B.C. workshop on organic vegetable gardening. Expert Arzeena Hamir will talk about the process of planning and growing a vegetable garden. The course takes place on Saturday, March 31 from 10 to 11: 30 a.m. at Eagles Estate Heritage Garden at 5655 Sperling Ave. It costs $20 or $15 for members. Pre-registration is required by contacting the Conservancy's head gardener Lynsey Dobbie at 604-733-2313 or [email protected].
5 Get drinking and eating for the Hop & Vine's Long Table Dinner No. 29 with Green Flash Brewing. The event's on Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at 1601 Burnwood Dr. The Hop has been hopping with this innovative new foray into culinary experimentation, as chef Renaldo Decembrini pairs up craft brews with some of his signature dishes. The events are known to sell out quickly, so even if you can't attend this one, there are monthly events at the Hop & Vine. Tickets are $40 plus tax and are available at the bar or online at www.hoplongtable.eventbrite.com. For more information please visit www. hoptaphouse.ca or call 604-421-1092.
