Burnaby’s Phil Seo had the time of his life when he competed on the Amazing Race Canada.
That joy apparently shone through to fans as the show’s producers chose him and his sister Martina as “fan favourites” – so much so that they gave the two their own web series.
The two are now competing in Tastes of the Race.
“The concept is my sister and I are in a cook-off competition against each other,” Phil told the Burnaby NOW. “We are using Dempster's recipes to cook a meal that is inspired by the city that the current season's the Amazing Race Canada racers are in that week.”
For example, there was an Amazing Race Canada episode in Revelstoke, so they cooked a salmon dish.
The Seos filmed 11 episodes in total and they will be released every Wednesday on the CTV website until Sept. 11. Right now there's already three episodes there. They are five-minute webisodes. The link is www.ctv.ca/dempsters
“I am thrilled and humbled at the same time that we were considered fan favourites and the only team chosen from last year's the Amazing Race Canada to be part of Tastes of the Race,” Phil said.

“We filmed all 11 episodes in Toronto in one week earlier this year, and we had a blast,” Phil said. “I love being in front of the camera … but my sister loves it to a whole other level. I hope that this helps her get famous and kick-start her own cooking show. She's so high energy and was made for TV. She's a high school home economics teacher so she teaches cooking for a living. I only started cooking about three years ago when I had my daughter. I wanted to learn healthy recipes so I could make healthy meals for my family.”
Aside from his TV work, Phil started working earlier this year as the associate director of the UBC Sauder co-op program. It’s a bit of a dream because UBC is where Phil went to school.
“I love being able to help students for my full-time job,” Phil said. “It's been very rewarding.”
