The Arts Club Theatre Company’s award-winning Onegin is hitting the road this month – with a stop in Burnaby coming up in March.

Onegin premiered in the spring of 2016 to critical acclaim and collected 10 wins at the 2016 Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards.

The play, based on the poem by Pushkin and the opera by Tchaikovsky, features book, music and lyrics by Amiel Gladstone and Veda Hille. It follows the story of the Larin family and what happens when Evgeni Onegin visits the Larin family estate – and his romantic charms stir passions long forgotten.

The touring production features two casts, with Jessie Award winners Alessandro Juliani and Meg Roe starring as Evgeni Onegin and Tatyana Larin until Feb. 3. From Feb. 6 to April 4, Jonathan Winsby and Lauren Jackson take over the lead roles.

It’s directed by Gladstone, with musical direction by Hille and choreography by Tracey Power. Burnaby native Amanda Testini serves as assistant choreographer.

The tour opens in Calgary Jan. 5 to 14 and moves around Western Canada, including shows at the Shadbolt Centre March 13 and 14, until it closes in Saskatoon April 4.
