Blues Fest 101: All about the food. (Spoiler alert: There's bacon)

No, you can’t bring your own outside food in to the Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival.
Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival, food trucks
Plenty of offerings await at the Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival, as a host of food trucks will be on side to fill up the crowds.

No, you can’t bring your own outside food in to the Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival.

But then again, why would you want to?

The festival offers a bounty of food trucks on site – including numerous options for people with particular dietary restrictions.

Vegetarians and vegans will find options at numerous trucks. Among them are Whistler Wood Fired Pizza Company, with its thin-crust Neapolitan-style pizza offerings; Meet 2 Eat, with Mediterranean grill food; and JJ’s Hot Cobbs, with roasted corn. Other vegetarian- and vegan-friendly choices include Kafka’s coffee and breakfast offerings, the funky Filipino food at Shameless Buns and the gourmet macaroni and cheese choices at Reel Mac and Cheese (vegetarian only; no vegan).

If you need gluten-free offerings, Meet 2 Eat, JJ’s Hot Cobbs and Kafka all have choices for you, and both Kafka’s and JJ’s Hot Cobbs have offerings for the low-carb and sugar-free crowd as well.

For those with unrestricted eating choices, there’s still plenty more on offer.

Tin Lizzy will have its mini donuts and fish-and-chips trucks on site, while TNT Wraps will be offering up its authentic Greek donairs. Wildcat Grill can tempt your taste buds with its burgers, wraps and gourmet sandwiches, and Teriyaki Express serves up fresh teriyaki and dim sum offerings.

Mo Bacon is sure to please the crowd with such offerings as its bacon pulled pork sandwich, Cajun bacon sandwich and bacon mac-and-cheese. Next Gen Concessions will roll the Corndog King into the festival, while Lemon Heaven will get ready to serve up its fresh-squeezed lemonade.

And for a treat, don’t forget Cravings Kettle Corn and Rocky Point Ice Cream, both of which will be ready to please the crowds.

DRINKS, ANYONE?

Naturally, along with that food you’re going to need some beverages.

Be sure to bring your own refillable water bottles onto the site; there will be stations available for refilling throughout the day so you can stay hydrated should it be a hot and sunny day.

The festival is also once again licensed, with beer and wine service, so those of age (19 and older) with proper ID can buy their drinks and enjoy them anywhere on the festival grounds (except the kids’ zone, which is alcohol-free).
