Burnaby actors star in murder mystery

Metro Theatre stages the Agatha Christie classic it first produced 50 years ago

Burnaby residents will be front and centre as the Metro Theatre stages a play it first put on half a century ago.

The first play the Metro Theatre ever produced, back in September 1963, was Agatha Christie's murder mystery The Hollow.

It's back on stage at the theatre starting Sept. 28, and it stars two residents of Burnaby.

Alison Schamberger - a former Burnaby North drama teacher - appears as Lucy Angkatell, the lady of the house who invites her family and friends to her home, The Hollow, for a weekend in the countryside. Things turn to chaos when murder arrives - and everyone becomes a suspect.

A primary suspect is Gerda Cristow, the wife of the doctor who gets shot - she's played by Marie Strom of Burnaby.

The rest of the cast includes Paul Fisher as Sir Henry Angkatell, Megan Couch as Henrietta Angkatell, Keara Barnes as Midge Harvey, Connor Ruther as Gudgeon, Eric Buskupski as Edward Angkatell, Serena Bickerstaff as Doris, Joshua Knight as Dr. John Cristow, Alexandra Wilson as Veronica Craye, Eric O'Connor as Inspector Colquhoun and Lucas Simon as Det. Sgt. Penny.

"Agatha Christie is the world's most prolific crime writer, and there's something about her stories that keeps people coming back for more," says director Joe Hinks in a press release. " Metro's got a very loyal fan base, and people are really excited to see The Hollow make a comeback this season."

Stage manager is Shay Cameron, also a Burnaby resident.

The Hollow runs Sept. 28 to Oct. 26, Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. There will be two matinees, Oct. 6 and 20, at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25 regular, $22 students and seniors. Tickets are available through Eventbrite, metro-the-hollow.eventbrite.com, or by calling 604-266-7191.

Metro Theatre is at 1370 Southwest Marine Dr. in Vancouver. See www.metrotheatre.com for more.
