Art lovers in Burnaby have a host of exhibitions and programs to choose from this fall.
The Burnaby Art Gallery’s 2015 season has kicked off with the opening of Alex Morrison: Phantoms of a Utopian Will/Like Most Follies, More Than a Joke and More Than a Whim. The exhibition is on until Nov. 8.
The exhibition has a few special events associated with it. Families can enjoy the exhibition and then get their hands on an art activity at the next In the BAG family Sunday program, Drawing Spaces, running on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. Then, coming up on Saturday, Oct. 24, you can drop in to the gallery for a tour led by Mandarin and English speaking guides – tours run every half-hour between 2 and 4 p.m.
The joint exhibition is also running at SFU Art Gallery until Dec. 11.
The gallery is also playing host to a few Culture Days activities this weekend, with Collaborative City Building from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday – in which you can help team up and build a 3-D city wall with wood, paper and found objects.
There’s also a Life Drawing With Print session from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, and a Family Portraits session for everyone aged three and up on Sunday. Call 604-297-4422.
For the young budding artist in the house, there are also a number of programs for kids. Among those coming up are Artful Duo (Parent and Me Studio Time) for two- to five-year-olds, running Nov. 6 to 27; Adventures in Printmaking, for four- to six-year-olds, from Oct. 17 to Nov. 7; Elements of Art, for six- to nine-year-olds, from Oct. 17 to Nov. 7, and Kidz Club Art Nights for seven- to 12-year-olds (the next one is Thursday, Oct. 29).
For teens, there’s a Printmaking Studio: Pop Culture and Beyond, running from Oct. 3 to Nov. 14.
For adults, there are a number of programs, including Art Quick Takes (the next one is Sunday, Oct. 4), Open Studio Printmaking (next session Sunday, Oct. 18) and Printmaking 101 (beginning Oct. 6).
Groups can also arrange their own adult group tours on a number of themes, including Strawberry Tea and Tour, Relief Printing and Embossing, or Tea and Tour sessions, for 10 to 25 people.
The Burnaby Art Gallery is at 6344 Deer Lake Ave. It’s open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is by donation, with a suggested donation of $5.
