The Burnaby Art Gallery has just welcomed a new curator.
Ellen van Eijnsbergen started in her new position as director-curator of the gallery on Sept. 9.
A media release notes that Van Eijnsbergen joined the City of Burnaby in 2011 as the fine arts coordinator at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
She came into the field with a bachelor of fine arts degree from Simon Fraser University in 2001 and followed that up by working as the visual arts education coordinator at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre until 2005.
From there, she became the visual arts manager at Evergreen Cultural Centre.
She has organized and curated more than 40 local, regional and international exhibitions that have given her the opportunity to work with emerging, established and senior artists in both group and solo exhibitions.
"I welcome the opportunity to work together with the staff and volunteers of the Burnaby Art Gallery to advance community engagement through public interaction with exhibitions, programs and the extensive collection of art work entrusted to the gallery," van Eijnsbergen said in the release.
Van Eijnsbergen takes over her new role as the gallery celebrates two major exhibitions featuring work by the Dutch masters: Storms and Bright Skies, and Inner Realms.
Both exhibitions are on at the gallery until Nov. 17.
