It’s a nationwide celebration of arts and culture – and it’s coming to Burnaby next weekend.
Burnaby is getting involved in Culture Days, with a wide range of activities around the city on Sept. 25, 26 and 27. Here are a few of the highlights:
Burnaby Public Library
* Papercraft Lab: The McGill branch (4595 Albert St.) is holding two Papercraft Lab sessions on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 3:30 to 5 p.m. Everyone over the age of four is welcome – adults and caregivers, too. The library provides supplies, plus ideas and instructions for making everything from paper puppets and flowers to note cards and autumnal art. Children under 10 must be accompanied by a caregiver. * Storytelling Circle: The Bob Pritte (Metrotown) branch at 6100 Willingdon Ave. hosts a storytelling circle for tweens, teens, adults and seniors, with light refreshments served. Register by calling 604-436-5400.
Burnaby Arts Council
* Burnaby Film Forum: The second annual Burnaby Film Forum, featuring a diverse sampling of emerging experimental films, is on at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, with awards and reception to follow. It’s free, and all are welcome.
* Artist demonstration: Visual artist Roderick Brown, a wood sculptor who also works in digital media, paint and printmaking, will hold a free demo at the Deer Lake Gallery on Saturday, Sept. 26 at noon.

Shadbolt Centre for the Arts
* Your Work is a Gift: Artist Tony Clennell offers up a free public lecture on Friday, Sept. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Pre-registration needed, see www.shadboltcentre.com.
* Sharing Our Stories: This afternoon event runs Sunday, Sept. 27 from 1 to 5 p.m., showing a series of digital short films by Burnaby seniors. It’s a drop-in event for all ages. See www.shadboltcentre.com.
Burnaby Art Gallery
* Life Drawing With Print: This session on Saturday, Sept. 26 runs from 1 to 3 p.m. and is free, for all levels. Pre-register at 604-297-4422.
* Family Portraits: Create a family portrait as a team with this event on Sunday, Sept. 27, running at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
* Collaborative City Building: This public art event is on Saturday, Sept. 26 from noon to p.m. (see page 13 for more).
