Burnaby resident at helm of Chutzpah! Festival

A Burnaby resident is once again at the helm of one of Vancouver’s most popular festivals. The 18 th annual Chutzpah! Festival returns Feb. 15 to March 15, and Burnaby’s own Marie-Louise Albert returns as its artistic and managing director.

Chutzpah! The Lisa Nemetz International Jewish Performing Arts Festival features performances at the Norman Rothstein Theatre, Scotiabank Dance Centre, Rickshaw Theatre and Fox Cabaret. Performances include dance, theatre, comedy, music and multidisciplinary work by artists from Canada and around the world.

Dance highlights include Israeli company Roy Assaf Dance, the American Ezralow Dance and a dance double bill including Machol Shalem Dance House of Israel and Derida Company of Bulgaria. Musical performers include singer-songwriter Idan Raichel, Mexico’s Troker, and Perla Batalla, a longtime singer and touring band member with Leonard Cohen.

Among the theatre highlights will be Michael Rubenfeld’s We Keep Coming Back, exploring the truth of Polish-Jewish reality. And, on the comedy front, audiences can enjoy performances by Jonathan Goldstein, Mary Walsh and New Zealander Deb Filler.
