A retrospective exhibition of a Burnaby sculptor's work is underway at the Evergreen Cultural Centre.
The exhibition of Keith Rice-Jones' work, Working the Edge: A (Mostly) Ceramic Journey, presents a 37-year survey of Rice-Jones' work in ceramics.
Rice-Jones, formerly an art teacher in in Coquitlam school district, accompanies his pieces with descriptions of his artistic journey and the range of themes that have inspired his work.
A press release notes that his work is the product of a diverse range of theories, inspirations and art movements.
It notes that his work, with his characteristic geometric, organic and assembled forms, stems from his early life as a woodworker in the late 19th-century English Arts and Crafts tradition and to his enthusiasm for the early 20th-century German Bauhaus movement.
"I am excited to be including a working studio component backed up with a new film by René Terlinden," Rice-Jones said.
Terlinden's documentary will be on display throughout the exhibit.
Rice-Jones will make a presentation during the opening reception and will also host three Artist Studio in the Gallery sessions, where he will work in a corner of the gallery and offer a glimpse into his artistic process.
One session ran Nov. 23. Two others are planned for Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The exhibition will run until Jan. 9 and is open Monday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
It's all free and open to the public.
The Evergreen Cultural Centre is at 1205 Pinetree Way in Coquitlam.
