A Burnaby resident is onstage in the UBC production of Rossini’s La Cenerentola this weekend.
Kurt Theiss appears as Dandini in the opera, which tells the fairytale story of Cinderella. It’s onstage at the Chan Centre Feb. 1 through 4. Theiss appears in two of the productions: on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
Theiss is a lifelong resident of the Heights who went to school at Confederation Park Elementary and Alpha Secondary and held a job at T&S Auto. He’s now studying opera at UBC, where he’s in the fourth year of his undergraduate degree, while working in maintenance at the Burnaby Transit Centre.
“I am exceptionally excited to be singing such a large and fun part of this opera,” Theiss wrote in an email to the NOW.
Theiss was also a featured soloist in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s Traditional Christmas concerts last year.
