A Canadian film with Burnaby roots was honoured at the World Water Forum earlier this year.

RiverBlue is a feature documentary that chronicles a three-year around-the-world river adventure by a renowned river conservationist, Burnaby’s own Mark Angelo. Angelo’s paddling adventure led him to uncover and document the extensive pollution impacts of the fashion industry.

At the recent World Water Forum in Brasilia, Brazil, with its concurrent Green Film Festival, the makers of RiverBlue were honoured with the Agence Française de Développement Best Film Award and the Green Drop Award – honouring the film from the past year that best promotes sustainability.

Angelo is a co-executive producer of the film. Other members of the RiverBlue team include Canadian producer and director Roger Williams, director Davis McIlvride and producer Lisa Mazzotta.

“It’s an honour to have RiverBlue recognized at such an important global gathering about water,” said Angelo, “and a key message of the film is the need to better care for waterways around the world.”
