A new business in Burnaby Heights has been broken into within two weeks of opening.

The owners of Chez Christophe Chocolaterie Patisserie, which opened on March 12, came to the store this morning to find they had been broken into overnight.

Many pieces of equipment were stolen from the kitchen, according to the owners, Christophe and Jessica Bonzon.

Christophe was at the store waiting for the Burnaby RCMP at about 8:45 a.m. when the NOW spoke with him.

The store will be closed this morning but Christophe said he hopes to reopen in the afternoon.

Christophe was previously a pastry chef at CinCin Restaurant in Vancouver and owns the shop with his wife, Jessica, who handles the retail side of the business.

They chose to open in the Heights because they live nearby, the couple told the NOW recently, and because they saw a lack of such shops in Burnaby.

The shop is located at 4712 Hastings St.
