Shadbolt Centre kicks off its 20th season with Live at the 'Bolt performances
Dances for a Small Stage
Top contemporary dancers from Vancouver take to the stage at the Shadbolt Centre Sept. 17 and 18 for Dances for a Small Stage.

Dances for a Small Stage is back.

The popular contemporary dance series is making a return to the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts for its Live at the ’Bolt nights on Sept. 17 and 18.

“No space is off limits as the audience is swept up in an intimate evening,” a press release says. “Bring your sense of adventure and join us in an eclectic and spirited mix of original dance creations.”

This edition of Dances for a Small Stage – which, as its name suggests, confines the artists to working within one small area – boasts an array of contemporary talent.

Among the first-time Small Stagers will be Heather Myers, a former artist with Nederlands Dans Theatre, Alberta Ballet and Boston Ballet, alongside contemporary dance artist and actor Agnes Tong, whose credits include Arts Club Theatre, Green Thumb Theatre and Globe Theatre.

Audience favourites including Vanessa Goodman, Scheherazaad Cooper and Caroline Liffman will also return to the stage with new works.

All the dancers will be accompanied by the musical talents of soundscape master Loscil and violinist Meredith Bates, with lighting design for the performances by Rob Sondergaard.

Dances for a Small Stage kicks off the Shadbolt Centre’s 20th season of theatre, music and dance in Burnaby.

It’s on at 8 p.m. both Thursday and Friday, Sept. 17 and 18.

Tickets are $15.
