'Darkly surreal' novel in the spotlight at Spoken Ink

Author Melia McClure is the featured reader at the last Spoken Ink night of the season.

The Burnaby Writers’ Society’s reading series returns Tuesday, June 16 to La Fontana Caffe.

The evening includes a reading by McClure along with an open mike session.

McClure is the author of The Delphi Room,her debut novel, which was released by ChiZine Publications in September 2013. She has since adapted the novel – described as “quirky” and “darkly surreal” – for stage and screen.

Her fiction has appeared in The Danforth Review and has been shortlisted in the CBC National Literary Awards. She’s also an editor of Meditation & Health magazine, which is distributed in the U.S., Canada, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia.

Her bio notes that she grew up dancing and acting, and in addition to working extensively as a writer and editor, she has appeared on film, television and stage. She’s also a graduate of The Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University.

The reading starts at 8 p.m., with open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m.

La Fontana Caffe is at 101-3701 Hastings St. in North Burnaby.
