Two Tri-City student actors are cast in Douglas College’s modern retelling of the murder of Julius Caesar.

Port Coquitlam’s Mike Waddell portrays Julius Caesar while Eve Jackson of Coquitlam appears as Octavius Caesar — and other characters — in the radio play that will be live streamed from the college theatre next week.

Presented by the Theatre and Stagecraft & Event Technology departments, Julius Caesar: a Play for Voices can be seen via Zoom on Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. and Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Both performances will include a talkback with cast and crew afterward.

Guest directed by Jane Heyman, the play had to be modified to allow for physical distancing during the pandemic.

“Without blocking to memorize, the performers have had more time to tackle Shakespeare’s text, focusing on the imagery and the language of Julius Caesar,” Heyman said, in a news release. “After all, these plays were meant to be spoken. There wasn’t a big production value or elaborate costumes in Shakespeare’s time. We’re staying true to that.”

Also in the show are Andy Nie, Ryan Tsang, Joseph Hartono, Jacob Tong and Artem Karamov.
