The Burnaby Art Gallery is reaching out to bring art to all corners of the city.
The gallery is hosting three new exhibitions at branches of the Burnaby Public Library.
* At the Bob Prittie branch at Metrotown, it's Harry Booth: Corners/Cutlines. Booth is a photographer based in Vancouver.
"The title of this exhibition refers to the presence of double meanings and dualities in both visual and written language," a press release explains.
Corners - as in intersections - can indicate public types of space; on the other hand, "corner" can also imply its opposite, a private and remote spot - as in the corners of the earth.
Cutline, meanwhile, is used in tree planting to refer to the edge of a clearcut - the line that separates logged land from unlogged land. It's also used in journalism to refer to an image caption.
"Booth's detailed documentation of public space within dramatically different zones of understanding pushes these dual natures to the fore," the release explains.
The Metrotown library is at 6100 Willingdon Ave., and the exhibition can be seen until Nov. 3.
* At the McGill library branch, at 4595 Albert St. in North Burnaby, it's Lionel Thomas: Works from the Permanent Collection. Thoms is known for his mosaic murals and public sculptures that were commissioned by universities, churches, government agencies and private businesses in B.C. and across Canada. He has also worked in a variety of media, including printmaking.
The works on display at the McGill library incorporate astronomical signs and symbols in bold colours, dating back to the period 1976 to 1983.
The exhibition is on until Nov. 4.
* At the Tommy Douglas library branch at 7311 Kingsway, it's Michael Dumontier: The Sky and the Ground.
Dumontier describes his medium as "foil stamp on found book." His work includes a series of altered books, in each case with the spine different from its binding.
"The addition of the foil stamping by the artist turns each book into a unique landscape," the release says.
