Elizabeth Wallace is an artist, member of the Burnaby Artists' Guild and the featured artist in the guild's spring show at the Shadbolt Centre this weekend. She's also the second subject in the NOW's ongoing Fill in the Blanks feature, which will introduce readers to a variety of interesting people in the arts and entertainment community.
Each subject fills out a short questionnaire, "filling in the blanks" to let us know about themselves. Here's a little more about Elizabeth ...
1. I am pleased to be the Featured Artist for the Burnaby Artists Guild Spring Show, April 4, 5 and 6 at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
2. I spend my time painting, enjoying my grandkids, acting as membership registrar for the Burnaby Artists Guild, volunteering and handling the scheduling at the Blackberry Gift Shop in the Port Moody Arts Centre (where I am also featured artist for March).
3. Right now I am working on new paintings for the Guild's Spring Show. Lots of florals. I find endless inspiration in nature's shapes and colours.
4. The book on my bedside table right now is Edward Rutherfurd's, Princes of Ireland.
5. Three songs you'll find on my IPod playlist are; anything my nephew, Joseph Schnurr, operatic tenor, has recorded; Famous Blue Raincoat album, Leonard Cohen songs by Jennifer Warnes and Willy's Amazing Grace.
6. One work of art that inspires me is Tom Thompson's The Jack Pine, one of his more recognized paintings, because of his wonderful use of colour, light and form. Cool, distant hills play off the evening sun shining through abstract branches.
7. One artist who inspires me is Robert Genn because he so generously shares his time and knowledge in giving back to the arts community.
8. My idea of a perfect day is spending a warm, summer day with my six grandkids, exploring every corner of the Burnaby Village Museum.
9. My favourite edible treat is pumpkin pie piled high with whipped cream.
10. My guilty pleasure is stealing a few hours lost in a good book.
11. My favourite vacation is driving across this beautiful country.
12. My favourite things about Burnaby are the many green spaces, parks and walks.
13. If I could sit down for coffee with anyone at all, I would choose my mom in Ontario, who turned a spry 97 in January - but we would have tea!
14. If I could live anywhere at any point in time, I would choose right here and right now.
15. If I could have a superpower, my superpower would be the ability to fly - to float on the currents of air. Think of the peace.
And finally ...
16. If people want to find out more about me, they can check out some of my paintings on my website, www.myartclub.com/elizabeth.wallace.
