BURNABY PHOTOGRAPHER SNAPS UP AWARD

Burnaby photographer Anna Beaudry has a new feather to put in her cap.

The B.C. branch of the Professional Photographers of Canada recently awarded her the Best Industrial Image trophy for her photograph called Toe Tag at its 68th annual awards banquet.

Beaudry also received an honourable mention in the fine art class for her image called A Lick of Rust.

"I am honoured to be acknowledged by my peers for this prestigious award in industrial photography," she said, in a press release. "Originally created for the TRIUMF particle physics lab, this image stands out as one of my personal favourites."

The association's mission is "to promote and foster the personal ethics and professional development of the working photographer."

The organization is the provincial association for professional full-time photographers, representing more than 240 of the top photographers in B.C.

ART IN THE LIBRARY

Everyone knows the library now has more to offer than just books.

But did you know it's also a great place to check out local art?

The Burnaby Art Gallery has two exhibitions on now until the end of April at two branches of the Burnaby library.

The Bob Prittie (Metrotown) Library, at 6100 Willingdon Ave., is hosting an exhibition called Ashley Culver and John Stocking: Upon Close Observation, on now until April 21.

Culver, a Burnaby artist, uses common objects, familiar textures and natural dyes to create re-formulations of various things we consume. Her body of work from the series called Wallpaper is juxtaposed with Stocking's 1960s psychedelic "op-art."

The second exhibition, called Jack Akroyd: Works from the Burnaby Art Gallery Permanent Collection, is on display at the McGill library, at 4595 Albert St., until April 22.

The works in this show, mostly from the early 1970s, present outdoor scenes of British Columbia.
