Burnaby residents are being invited in to the Shadbolt Centre to take a closer look at art this fall.
The centre is once again offering its series of Art on the Spot events – a monthly series of performances, events and demonstrations that introduce people to the multitude of programs and arts happening at the centre.
On Saturday, Sept. 29, people are invited to join dance artist Donna Redlick for an outdoor-site-specific community dance event to celebrate the change of seasons at Deer Lake Park. Participants must register ahead and take part in three Saturday rehearsals to prepare for the outdoor performance; those dancing should have at least one to two full years of dance experience. Registration is free, but see the Shadbolt’s fall program guide to sign up. (You can pick up a guide at city facilities or find one at www.shadboltcentre.com.)
Anyone who wants to just watch can turn out on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. to enjoy the performance.
On Saturday, Oct. 27, everyone can stop in to the Shadbolt atrium between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for Imaginary Beings. Tina Ozols from Oona Clothing will be on hand to help people create their own original costume inspired by myth, magic and imagination – using recycled fabrics and simple crafts items.
Then, on Saturday, Nov. 10, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., look-alike artist-instructor Tony O’Regan will guide participants in an art activity inspired by the paintings of English Romantic painter J.M.W. Turner.
Shadbolt Centre is at 6450 Deer Lake Ave. For more information on all its programming, see www.shadboltcentre.com.
